Spam Filter

The Spam filter allows you to filter your incoming email using several different sensitivity settings.

The filter is initially disabled (default setting) until you enable it.

To configure the spam filter:

  • In the Emails window click on the Tools > Spam Filter menu option.

  • In the Spam Filter window, check the 'Enable Spam Filter' checkbox and adjust the settings to your requirements.

  • Click the OK button to close the window.

Spam Filter Settings

Spam Filter Threshold

Use this to adjust the overall threshold. The default setting is level 7.

HTML Links in Email

Use this to change the sensitivity of the filter to links to web sites in emails.

Banned Words

Use this to change the sensitivity of the filter to the words in the banned words list.

English Spelling Check

Use this to change the sensitivity of the filter to incorrectly spelled English words. If you regularly receive emails in a language other than English, this setting should be set to the lowest sensitivity.

Received by Correct Recipient

Use this to change the sensitivity of the filter to emails that are not sent directly to you (i.e. that you have received as a BCC recipient) or use a 'generated' form of your name.

Own Signature Present

Use this to change the sensitivity of the filter to the presence of your own signature in the email. When someone replies to one of your emails, these mails will often contain your own signature. If the filter finds your signature in an email, it very unlikely to be spam. The higher the sensitivity for this item, the less likely an email containing your signature is to be considered spam.

HTML Tables in Email

Use this to change the sensitivity of the filter to emails containing HTML tables. Spam emails often use tables to lay out pictures and also to obfuscate the words within the mail.

Email Addresses stored in Contacts

If this option is enabled, any email received from an address that is stored in your contacts will automatically be considered to NOT be spam.
